School of Discipleship

Due to concerns surrounding COVID-19, the School of Discipleship is postponed until June and will include an optional online offering. Please check here for updates.

Open to adult Catholics who desire to become a disciple and cultivate disciples in others, the School of Discipleship shows you how to follow Christ every day. The material in the School of Discipleship is the realization that we need to go beyond learning and into practice. Sessions are taught by Jeff Cavins, Catechetical Institute instructor and former director.

You will learn important keys to live your life as a modern disciple:

  • What does it mean to be a modern-day disciple?
  • What are the daily disciplines of a disciple?
  • How do you share your faith with confidence?
  • How do you bring your prayer life to a new level?
  • How do you hear the voice of God in daily prayer?

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a graduate of the two-year Pillars Program to attend the School of Discipleship?

The quick answer is "no" and the more detailed answer is: If you have gone through the two-year Pillars Program and ever asked, "What's next?" — this experience is for you.

If you have not gone through the Pillars Program but are interested in taking your faith to the next level, this experience is for you.

If you want to truly walk with Christ, this experience is for you!

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

I took the Life Skills Course. Is the School of Discipleship the same course?

The quick answer is "no" and the more detailed answer is: The School of Discipleship is an experience, not a course. If you attended one of the CI courses on Jesus the Rabbi, then you got a sneak peek and built a good foundation for what awaits as you enter into life as a missionary disciple of Jesus Christ.

I did not take the CI Life Skills Course. Am I going to be lost in the School of Discipleship?

The quick answer is "no" and the more detailed answer is: The School of Discipleship starts from the standpoint of "you are interested in following Christ." It will show you how to do that on a daily basis.

Does the School of Discipleship repeat Jeff Cavins' video offerings?

The quick answer is "no" and the more detailed answer is: The material in the School of Discipleship is the result of Jeff's realization that we need to go beyond learning and put it into practice. This will be a journey with a special emphasis on creating the life of a disciple. Father Mike Schmitz, director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Duluth, will be a guest teacher.
