Pastoral Ministry at the Service of Holiness (IOCF)
Presented by Douglas Bushman, S.T.L.
The glory of ordained ministry is the holiness of the faithful. Every bishop, priest, and deacon should make his own the words of Jesus regarding those whom the Father entrusted to him.
Professor Bushman’s reflections will be an unfolding of doctrinal and pastoral-ministerial implications of Chapter Five of Lumen gentium on the Universal Vocation to Holiness in the Church, and CCC, 773. He will focus on apostolic authority—episcopal, presbyteral, and diaconal ministry—as pastoral accompaniment of the faithful throughout the second conversion. He will also propose several models or dynamics of ongoing post-baptismal conversion, and develop related strategies for pastoral initiatives and effective preaching based on Baptism being the gift of a conscience purified by the blood of Christ and on prayer as “the interpreter of desire.”
