Quinn Biblical Studies Endowment

The Monsignor Jerome D. Quinn Endowment for Biblical Studies brings scholars to The Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity to teach, mentor faculty, give public lectures, and produce scholarly works. The Endowment also contributes to the strengthening of the guild of Catholic biblical scholars by holding regular conferences. Established in 2008 through the generosity of the Quinn family and other donors, the Endowment supports a twofold mission to honor the memory of Msgr. Quinn: the promotion of high-level biblical studies, and the strengthening of the biblical studies program at The Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity.

I assumed leadership of the Quinn Endowment in the summer of 2019. By that time, Father Scott Carl, the founding director (2008-2019), had overseen five academic conferences. I will continue this tradition of conferences for biblical scholars teaching in Catholic seminaries. Father Carl also edited a volume of select proceedings from the 2009 and 2011 conferences and began editing two forthcoming volumes. The first of the two includes select proceedings from the 2013 and 2015 conferences, and the second will be a peer-reviewed selection of the 2017 papers. I will finish editing these two volumes, and I intend to continue the recent practice of publishing one peer-reviewed volume per conference. Indeed, these conferences and associated publications represent the principal activity of the Quinn Endowment thus far.

Besides the conferences, the Endowment has sponsored guest lecturers and the purchase of biblical software for The Saint Paul Seminary and for its professors. It has also contracted a guest lecturer each year for our students visiting the Holy Land during the annual January Term.

Inspired by Msgr. Quinn and Father Carl, I shall strive to ensure that the Endowment continues to elevate the quality of biblical instruction in Catholic seminaries.
