(COVID 19) Coronavirus Updates

Updated 3.20.20

Dear Friends,

These are challenging days as our world responds to the COVID-19 pandemic. And yet, as we always do, we approach this time with faith in God’s providence. As men and women of faith, let us take to heart our role of prayerful intercession for the needs of our world.

We would like to share with you the changes that have taken place at Saint John Vianney College Seminary (SJV) and The Saint Paul Seminary (SPS), and we invite you to send us your prayer requests during this time of uncertainty. It is our privilege to unite our prayers with yours.

Saint John Vianney College Seminary
Most of the SJV seminarians have returned to their home dioceses for the remainder of the semester. Some are living in cloister at a nearby retreat center with members of the SJV priest staff. They will complete their coursework online and will continue their spiritual formation in their new settings off campus. We are very proud of these young men and the maturity they have displayed as their college seminary formation experience has significantly changed. They trust in God’s plan for their lives, and they continue to discern under new circumstances.

The Saint Paul Seminary
The SPS seminarians (under the advisement of their bishops and vocation directors) were given an option to either depart on March 20 (the start of spring break) or to remain in residence in a cloister-like community for the rest of the semester. Most elected to remain at the seminary. Like their brothers at SJV, they will complete their spring semester coursework online. We are humbled by their desire to use this time to go deeper in relationship with the Lord, and we admire the charity with which they approach unforeseen challenges. Their priestly ministry will forever be marked by this formative experience and their generous response.

We want to pray for you.
The SJV and SPS priests and seminarians have a unique opportunity to pray for you and your intentions at this time. Prayer is powerful, and we would be honored to remember your intentions throughout the remainder of the Lenten season and as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord at Easter.
