The Saint Paul Seminary is pleased to wish a warm welcome to Bishop Chad Zielenski, the new shepherd of the Diocese of New Ulm, Minnesota.

Pope Francis named Zielenski the diocese’s fifth bishop Tuesday. His installation is set for Sept. 27.

“We are thrilled the Holy Father has chosen a joyful, Catholic leader in Bishop Zielinski to join us in Minnesota,” said Saint Paul Seminary Rector Fr. Joseph Taphorn. “We look forward to the impact Bishop will have in the Diocese of New Ulm — particularly when it comes to forming holy priests, deacons and lay leaders — and to partnering with him on this important work.”

Zielenski, the former bishop of the Diocese of Fairbanks in Alaska, succeeds Bishop John M. LeVoir. The latter led the diocese from 2008-2020 and now resides at the Leo C. Byrne Residence for retired priests next to The Saint Paul Seminary.

Monsignor Douglas L. Grams has served as New Ulm’s diocesan administrator since August 10, 2020.
