Why Study Theology?

The Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity is committed to sustaining a faith-filled environment, one that seeks to deepen the integration of study and wisdom in the service of truth. Students who seek to advance their personal and professional lives through a graduate degree in theology are motivated by a variety of reasons and are pursuing a diverse set goals.

Through our graduate degree programs, students are preparing to formulate responses to the world's most demanding questions and to serve the Church through various ministries.

You may be interested in understanding the role of religion in the world; the dialogue between faiths and cultures; topics regarding human life, dignity and the common good; or the application of Catholic tradition in parish work and educational ministries.

Many of our students plan to continue their education with additional graduate study or work in the many pastoral and educational ministries within the Church.

Graduate students in theology develop skills that are valuable to employers seeking critical thinkers who are prepared to face the important issues in a complex world.

Our graduates bring value to a variety of humanitarian, charitable, non-profit and philanthropic organizations. A graduate degree in theology is also an enhancement to other fields such as engineering, business, health care, law, education, science and the humanities, where broad, interdisciplinary and ethical perspectives matter.
